Bed bugs are becoming  more of serious problem in New Jersey, due to the fact that we live in high density population area (NJ has highest population density in all 50 states)  with high level of travel. There are no more safe areas due to resistance of this parasite and it's ability to hitch a ride in clothing or a luggage. Bed bugs proliferation increased over 500% in just a last few years and now is a lot more than just a nuisance problem. People react differently to a bed bug bites, some developing an itchy rash and severe allergic reaction and others may not have any symptoms at all. If bed bugs are suspected, responsible parties should contact licensed pest control company as soon as possible.  Treating bed bugs with household or over-the-counter pesticides can make matter worst by simply dispersing them to other areas and allowing bed bugs to build resistance to pesticides. Cockroach is probably one of the most misunderstood insects. They have been around a lot longer than we have, so they learned how to adapt to most situations. Cockroaches also known as simply roaches are very adaptable, especially if the environment is moist and humid. It is one of the reasons roaches will mostly inhibit kitchens and bathrooms and you will find them under cabinets. It is very important  not to have any dripping water. Water is something roaches cannot live without, so eliminating faucet drips and leaking pipes will go a long way in roach control. Next is a kitchen hygiene, also is very important in cockroach elimination. Cockroaches will eat anything organic, but they will prefer garbage and food scraps, so do not leave any desirable cockroach food around. Cockroaches are not known to carry disease, but can transfer bacteria such as salmonella, listeria or e coli as they crawl from place to place. Usually roaches active only at night, so if you happened to see them during a day it's a sure sign of roach infestation. Once infestation occurs, most likely premises will need to be treated by a professional pest exterminator. For a free cockroach infestation evaluation call (732)930-1217 or send us your info. and service representative will be happy to assist with any question you may have. Dry wood termites are of the family Kalotermitidae and live primarily in warmer areas that do not experience very cold temperatures, but with changing climate, and importation of wood products from all over the world, infestation may occur, even though these termites are less common than subterranean termites, which are the more familiar type of termite seen in most places through out the United States. Dry wood termite colonies can cause devastating damage to the structural integrity of walls, roofs and furniture and, if not eradicated can significantly bring down the value of the house. If dry wood termites are suspected, homeowner can initiate a treatment  by removing firewood and old lumber away from the structure. Remove wood from a garage area or anywhere near the house where drywood termites can migrate into a structure. In most cases this will solve a major issue with drywood termites infestation, however it's always a good idea to have property evaluated by a professional to make sure there is no hidden drywood termite colony present in the house. Carpenter Ant is a pest that if left untreated quickly can become a destructive force. A single colony can grow to up 3000 carpenter ants and create havoc on any wooden structure. Carpenter ants do not actually consume wood, but continuously tunnel though while building and expanding their nests. If left unchecked, they can destroy or seriously  damage building's wooden beams and other structural wood. A single fire ant in close proximity to a house meant there is nest somewhere near where the rest of the colony resides. Some of the tell tale signs of carpenter ant presence are the little saw dust piles. These are results of carpenter ant burrowing through the wood. Those tunnels that are literally drilled by insects lead into what's called a gallery, where the nest resided. If gallery cavity is large and located inside a structural beam, that beam can fracture, and depending on the location of the beam, may be a concern of serious structure settlement and all the structural problem arising from that point. To say it bluntly - carpenter ant is a serious threat and should be treated as such. Application of topical (i.e spray pesticides) treatment do not work, since pesticides breakdown quickly by a sunlight and washed away by rain. Pest control professional can assess severity of carpenter ant and develop a proper therapy treatment that's safe and effective.

brown stink bugThe brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), is not a native bug on a North American continent, It was possibly introduced first to Pennsylvania sometimes in the mid to late 1990's. Since it was first collected in Allentown, PA it has spread to following states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia. A stink bug is known by it's family name Pentatomidae is an aggressive agricultural pest in Far East countries of Japan, Korea, China and now poses a serious threat to NJ agriculture and landscaping. Stink bug is mostly a nuisance indoors and will secrete a very unpleasant scent when handled. However indoor infestation usually is not a big problem, since stink bugs do not mate or lay eggs inside a dwelling. It is mostly outdoors and usually on the side of the house where you will notice a large number of stink bugs during a warm season. Stink bugs are very hardy insects and are fully capable to survive a rough winters in New Jersey and may appear even in the winter on some of the warmer days. Until recently there were few options in regard of stink bug extermination, however in the last year new and very effective products became available, which allows pest control professional to deal with stink bug problem more efficiently. We anticipated this result due to the fact that stink bug is a very aggressive agricultural pest.

Adult stink bug are approximately 2/3 inch long and come in s different shades of brown on both the upper and lower body surfaces. They are the typical “shield” shape of other stink bugs, almost as wide as they are long. To differentiate them from other species of stink bugs, you can look for lighter bands on the antennae and darker bands on the membranous, overlapping part at the rear of the front pair of wings.  The name “stink bug” refers to the scent glands located on the dorsal surface of the abdomen and the underside of the thorax. This a main defense mechanism against bird predators. Stink bugs lay elliptical shaped eggs of yellow to yellowish red attached together to the underside of the leave in clusters of of up to 30 eggs. Stink bugs go through five nymphal stages
This species of the stink bug have anywhere from 1 to 3 generations in the season if temperatures are warm. Adult stink bugs generally come out mid-May and after mating deposit eggs between May and August. Once hatched, stink bug will go through 5 molting stages and will begin to look for over-winter sites in September and early October.

Damage caused by stink bugs

In its native range, it feeds on a wide variety of host plants. Fruits attacked include apples, peaches, figs, mulberries, citrus fruits and persimmons. This true bug has also been reported on many ornamental plants, weeds, soybeans and beans for human consumption. Feeding on tree fruits such as apple results in a characteristic distortion referred to as “cat facing,” that renders the fruit unmarketable as a fresh product.

Stink Bug Indoor Presence

These insects are not known to cause harm to humans, they do not bite people or reproduce inside their homes however homeowners become alarmed when the  stink bugs fly noisily and sometimes land on people. If there is a large quantity of insects already entered the house they can be vacuumed, but the bag must be removed right after the cleaning and sealed, otherwise bugs will come out. There will be an unpleasant odor coming out of a vacuum cleaner for some time.

Best way to manage stink bugs In homes

The easiest way to prevent stink bugs from entering your home is to seal possible points of entry. Proper door seals will go a long way in preventing insects from entering in (this applies to a lot of insect pests). Seal all pipes going into a building, repair cracks in the siding and around windows with exterior grade silicone. Repair screens on windows and doors ant this should limit the number of stink bugs that enter the house.
Application of pesticides outside can offer some relief during a major infestation but will not completely eliminate stink bugs, due to natural breakdown process that occurs when pesticides are affected by rain and sunlight. It is recommended that a professional  pest control service should be utilized for safe and efficient result. DO NOT use any pesticides to kill stink bugs inside your home. A large number of dead stink bugs may attract a carpet beetle, that will feed on their carcases and then attack wool products, stored goods and other natural products. Insecticides will kill stink bugs that are inside but will not prevent new insects from coming in
